The Art of Applying Force
The lever is one of the oldest tools used by humans. A simple fulcrum and beam enable small hands to move large boulders. In the end, you trade distance for power. This is obviously true for large objects, but it is also true for large organizations.
For legislation, the journey from idea to law is long. If you know the path, you can see many opportunities to influence the outcome. It may take time to come to fruition, but a small force applied at the right moment can make a tremendous difference in the end.
In our case, for crypto, we have seen constituents rally around a clear cause. As the infrastructure bill evolved into its final form in the Senate, people saw the competing amendments. They knew what they wanted, and they contacted their Senators to express their will, in volume.
The dueling amendments in the Senate created something that the public needs: a focal point. This is a singular place where they can demand specific action on the otherwise monolithic infrastructure bill. Without that target, we can demand that the Senators vote no on a “must pass” piece of legislation, and the only possible outcome is frustration.
Given this context, it’s clear that our tiny PACDAO moves in the land of giants. That means, instead relying on power, we must rely on our cunning. Our opportunity is clear: do our best to bring an amendment to a floor vote. If that happens, the people will have a rallying point. We will be joined by an army.
That’s why we’re defining the goal of our first action: to encourage representatives to sponsor and bring to a floor vote an amendment that strips all crypto language from the infrastructure bill. The introduction of a House amendment that does this will bring the attention of the entire crypto community. This is our lever, and the time to apply it is now.
